Shopify app revenue share calculator
Enter your gross app revenue and see what you keep. The calculator applies Shopify's current rule: 0% on your first 1,000,000 US dollars of lifetime gross app revenue counted since January 1, 2025, then 15%, plus a 2.9% processing fee on all billing. It runs in your browser and sends nothing.

How this month's revenue splits
All your apps together, in US dollars.
Before this month, including associated developer accounts.
Example values: replace them with yours.
What you keep this month
$10,602
- You keep
- $10,602
- Shopify revenue share
- $1,050
- Processing fee (2.9%)
- $348
You pass the first million this month: the 15% applies to the part above it.
Over the next 12 months at this pace: $20,850 in revenue share, $4,176 in fees, $118,974 for you.
Before sales tax, the regulatory operating fee charged in some countries, and refunds: Shopify computes its share on gross revenue, refunds included.
The rule it applies
| What | Rate | Applied to |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue share, first $1,000,000 | 0% | Lifetime gross app revenue earned since January 1, 2025 |
| Revenue share, above $1,000,000 | 15% | Every dollar past the threshold |
| Processing fee | 2.9% | All billing, charged separately from the revenue share |
The threshold counts the revenue of all your apps together, and of every Associated Developer Account registered to you or an associated developer. Payouts are still made separately for each Partner account. The million does not reset each year, and revenue earned before January 1, 2025 does not count toward it.
To get these rates, you register once for the Shopify App Store, with a one-time fee of 19 US dollars per Partner account. The Partner Program Agreement sets a 20% share for an app developer who has not registered.
Who pays 15% on everything
The 0% tier is for developers who earned less than 20 million US dollars through the Shopify App Store in the previous calendar year and whose company has a gross revenue under 100 million US dollars. Above either threshold, 15% applies from the first dollar. Shopify reassesses this every year, without resetting the million.
What the calculator leaves out
- Sales tax, which Shopify charges separately where it applies.
- The Regulatory Operating Fee that Shopify adds on sales to merchants in some countries or regions.
- Refunds: Shopify computes its share on gross sales, and its documentation says refunds aren't taken into account.
- Theme Store and referral income, which are not part of the App Store revenue share.
- Currency: amounts are in US dollars, the currency of the threshold.
From revenue share to your payouts
What you keep here is still not your monthly recurring revenue, and not exactly your payout: trials, refunds, plan changes and payout timing sit in between. See how Shopify's revenue share works for the full rule and its history, and how to calculate MRR for a Shopify app for the number investors and buyers ask about.
Luseri shows your MRR, from the price of the plans your merchants are on, next to the cash Shopify actually collected for you, each in its own currency.
Questions
- How much does Shopify take from app developers?
- Nothing on your first 1,000,000 US dollars of lifetime gross app revenue counted since January 1, 2025, then 15% of what comes above it. A 2.9% processing fee applies to all billing, separately. Developers above Shopify's thresholds pay 15% on everything.
- Is the revenue share calculated before or after refunds?
- Before. Shopify calculates it on gross sales, and its documentation says refunds aren't taken into account.
- Do all my apps count toward the $1M threshold?
- Yes. The revenue of all your apps is added together, including apps under your Associated Developer Accounts. Payouts are still made per Partner account.
- Does the $1M threshold reset every year?
- No. Since June 16, 2025, it is a lifetime amount, counted from revenue earned on January 1, 2025.
