Shopify Partner payouts: when Shopify pays app developers, and why the numbers disagree

Shopify pays app developers twice a month, in US dollars, once the balance reaches 25 dollars. Before that, a recurring charge can take up to 37 days to become an earning, because Shopify first has to collect it from the merchant. Add Shopify's fees, refunds, credits, frozen stores and dashboards that each count differently, and the figures rarely match. Pick a charge and a day in the calculator below to see when Shopify pays it out, then read the path from a merchant's charge to your bank account, as Shopify documents it on October 29, 2026.

Date of your Shopify payout

What you want to date

Shopify turns it into an earning up to 37 days later, once it has billed the merchant.

Paid at the latest on

—

Business days run from Monday to Friday. Shopify doesn't say which public holidays it skips, so the date may slip by a day or two. Below a $25 balance nothing is paid, and the balance waits for the next period; an earning on hold (an unpaid merchant bill, a frozen store) waits too. The exact date of each payout is in Shopify's Dev Dashboard, under Organization settings.

Luseri reads your payouts from Shopify's Partner API and estimates the next one, next to your recurring revenue. Create my account

The payout schedule

Earnings accruedPaid
From the 1st to the 10th of the month5 business days after the 15th
From the 11th to the 5th-last day of the month5 business days after the last day of the month
During the last 5 days of the month5 business days after the 15th of the following month
  • A payout is made only when the balance is at least 25 US dollars; below that, it waits for the next period. Sales and referral earnings are counted separately.
  • Payouts go through Hyperwallet to one payout method per organization: a PayPal account or a bank account. Virtual bank accounts such as Payoneer are not supported.
  • Payouts are always issued in US dollars. Converting them to another currency costs 0.50% of the payout.

Before your first payout

You set up a Hyperwallet account with your business details, and add your tax information in your organization settings. A business may have to verify its identity before its first payout, and an individual once their earnings reach a threshold; Shopify lists the countries concerned, the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.

Since October 27, 2026, payout and billing settings are in the Dev Dashboard: select your organization, then Organization settings. The Settings and Payouts links of the Partner Dashboard, and its payout widget, moved there. Existing partners have nothing to do: their settings stayed the same. Charge details, refunds, app earnings, exports and app history stay in the Partner Dashboard.

From a merchant's charge to your earnings

  1. The merchant approves your charge. App subscriptions are billed on their own 30-day cycle, separate from the merchant's Shopify bill, so usage from one cycle can be spread over two of the merchant's bills.
  2. Shopify collects the charge from the merchant. Only then does it become an earning: up to 37 days after the merchant approved a recurring charge, and within 7 days for a one-time charge. The same delays apply to Shopify App Pricing.
  3. Earnings add up until the next payout date in the schedule above, then are paid to your payout method.

So the first month of a new subscription can reach your bank account more than a month after the merchant subscribed. That is also why your MRR runs ahead of your payouts.

What takes money out or holds it back

SituationWhat happens
Shopify's revenue share and processing feeTaken before the payout: 0% on your first $1M of lifetime gross app revenue, then 15%, plus 2.9% on all billing. See Shopify App Store fees and revenue share.
Taxes and the Regulatory Operating FeeApplicable taxes are deducted from your payout and recorded in an invoice. Sales to merchants in some countries or regions carry an extra Regulatory Operating Fee.
The merchant's bill failsThe earning is paid only after the payment is retried and goes through.
The store is frozenA store is frozen when an invoice stays unpaid for 28 days. Its earnings are not paid until it is unfrozen, and its future payments for your app are on hold.
The store closes, or uninstalls your appCharges billed through Shopify stop when a store is deactivated. An uninstall does not remove a pending charge that was already generated.
A refund or a chargebackNo fees are owed on refunded or charged-back amounts, and Shopify can take amounts back from your next payouts.
An app credit you grantDeducted from your upcoming payment. A credit fails if it is larger than what the store paid you in the last 30 days.
A hold on the payoutShopify emails you when a payout is on hold because it needs more information. Wrong payout details, the limits of the payout method, and fraud or money-laundering checks can also hold it.

Why the numbers don't match

Shopify shows several "earnings", with different definitions:

  • The earnings card of the Dev Dashboard home: what is left of your app revenue after revenue share, fees, refunds and chargebacks.
  • The "App earnings" of a store: a gross figure, credits and refunds included, which is not a payout.
  • The earnings of an app: paid amounts and pending ones together.
  • The payout: what you actually receive. Shopify writes that when a charge's details and its payout disagree, the payout is correct.

In the Partner API, each transaction carries a gross amount (what the merchant paid, without taxes), a net amount (what is added to or taken from your payout) and Shopify's fee. Shopify adds that this transaction data "is for analytics purposes only": the payout statement is the reference.

Install counts differ too. Since September 25, 2026, the Installs card of the Dev Dashboard counts every store your app is on, your own development stores and stores with no active plan included, while the Partner Dashboard's "Merchants with your app" counts only active stores. The two Shopify dashboards are compared in our Dev Dashboard guide.

October 22, 2026On a usage-based plan, uninstalling the app produced a final usage charge of $0.Staff confirmed a problem on Shopify's side, with no fix date. Still open on October 29.

Keep your own record

Shopify's pages move and its counts change definition, so keep a record you can check against your payout statements: the charges merchants approved, what Shopify collected, and the gap between the two.

Luseri reads your payouts from the Partner API, with the fees Shopify kept, and shows the cash collected next to your MRR, each in its own currency, with an estimate of your next payout and a page for each store. The exact date and amount of a payout stay in the Dev Dashboard. It only reads: it never changes your payout settings. See the MRR dashboard for Shopify apps.
