Shopify Dev Dashboard vs Partner Dashboard: why your app's numbers don't match

The two dashboards count different things. The Dev Dashboard counts every store whose installation is still on record, including your development stores and stores with no active plan, while the Partner Dashboard counts only active stores and reports earnings once merchants have paid Shopify. Since October 27, 2026, payouts and the Partner settings are in the Dev Dashboard too. Neither shows your MRR.

What changed on October 27, 2026

Payouts, Partner billing and the remaining Partner settings moved to the Dev Dashboard: select your organization, then Organization settings. There you find your organization details, with your Partner ID and App Store registration, your payouts (setup, history, transactions and payout methods), Partner billing, and, under Users then Security, the Partner API clients. The Settings and Payouts links of the Partner Dashboard now open these pages, and existing settings were carried over.

The same day, the Dev Dashboard gained a page per store: the apps of your organization installed on it, the people of your organization with collaborator access, and the earnings from that store (total app earnings, total theme earnings and recurring revenue share). For one app on one store, it shows the gross lifetime earnings from that store, a feed of install and billing events, and the app's current subscription. What you see depends on your permissions.

Charge details, refunds, app earnings, history exports and each app's full history stay in the Partner Dashboard, and Shopify says App distribution moves to the Dev Dashboard soon. Payout dates and holds are in our guide to Shopify Partner payouts.

What changed on September 25, 2026

On September 25, 2026, Shopify announced a new wave of changes to the Dev Dashboard (dev.shopify.com/dashboard): its Home shows revenue across all your apps, its apps index lists each app's revenue, installs and alerts, and each app's Overview charts revenue, installs and uninstalls over time.

The same day, developers reported on Shopify's community forum that the install count had disappeared from the Partner Dashboard's list of apps. On September 28, 2026, a Shopify staff member replied that a chart of current installs on active stores was back on the Partner Dashboard's app overview, along with the exports, and that the aim is to move app monitoring out of the Partner Dashboard. Payouts followed on October 27, 2026.

What each dashboard shows

In the Dev Dashboard, as of October 30, 2026:

  • Installs: the number of stores your app is on right now. Selecting it opens Current installs, a list of those stores with each one's plan, install date and contact details.
  • Install events and Uninstall events: every install and every uninstall inside the period you pick, charted in the Growth card.
  • Earnings, on the Home and in each app's Growth card: what is left of your app revenue after revenue share, fees, refunds and chargebacks. They are charted in whole days, so today is left out, and only people with the View financials permission see them.
  • Payouts, on the Home: your next payout, the previous one and your year-to-date total, opening Payouts in Organization settings. They also need the View financials permission.
  • Stores: a page per store with your apps on it and the earnings from that store. Clicking a store in Current installs opens its app history page, with the store's app earnings and your app's current subscription there.
  • Logs: API requests, webhook deliveries, Function runs and app events across every store, kept for 30 days.

In the Partner Dashboard:

  • Merchants with your app: the number of active stores.
  • App earnings: what Shopify has paid you or will pay you, paid out and pending, after its revenue share and any app credits, with the detail of each charge and refund. When a charge's details and its payout disagree, Shopify says the payout is correct. The payouts themselves are in the Dev Dashboard since October 27, 2026.
  • App history: install, uninstall and charge events, newest first, such as a recurring charge accepted, activated, canceled or frozen. Since April 2026, merchants must pick an uninstall reason, which the Partner Dashboard shows too.
  • CSV exports: Current merchants (with each store's plan, install date, and whether the install was organic or came from a paid ad), Earnings, and History.

Why the Dev Dashboard shows more installs

Because it counts more stores. Shopify defines the Dev Dashboard's Installs as every store whose installation is still on record, which is installs minus uninstalls, including your own development stores and stores with no active plan. A Shopify staff member added on the forum, on September 27, 2026, that this includes closed and frozen stores. The Partner Dashboard's Merchants with your app counts only active stores: stores on a paid or trial plan, staff stores and development stores, leaving out canceled and frozen ones. The two match only when every store with your app is active.

Developers in the September 2026 thread reported gaps from about 100 installs to nearly double. A Shopify staff member replied that the old Partner Dashboard count had a known issue that undercounted installs, and that the Dev Dashboard calculates installs from the full set of install and uninstall events.

Both counts include development stores, so neither is the number of merchants paying you. Shopify's documentation says the Dev Dashboard count runs ahead of that number.

Install events are a third number. Shopify's example: 12 installs and 3 uninstalls in a week show as 12 install events and 3 uninstall events, while the Installs card ends the week 9 higher than it started. A store that installs again counts as a new install event each time.

Revenue, earnings and MRR are different numbers

They measure money at different moments. MRR is the monthly price of the subscriptions active today, Dev Dashboard earnings are what you earned after Shopify's deductions, and Partner Dashboard app earnings are payments Shopify has made or scheduled, which appear only after merchants pay their Shopify invoice.

Earnings lag behind. A recurring charge can take up to 37 days from the merchant's approval to show as an earning, and a one-time charge appears within 7 days. Shopify then pays out twice a month, once your balance is above 25 US dollars. MRR moves the day a subscription starts or ends.

Shopify's cut has several parts. At standard rates, the revenue share is 0% on your first 1,000,000 US dollars of lifetime gross app revenue, counted from January 1, 2025, and 15% beyond; it is calculated on gross sales and does not take refunds into account. A 2.9% processing fee and applicable sales tax apply to all billing, charged separately, and sales to merchants in some countries carry an extra Regulatory Operating Fee. The details are in Shopify's app revenue share.

Earnings also include one-time and usage charges, which MRR leaves out. A month with a large one-time sale can raise earnings while MRR stays flat.

Which number to trust, question by question

Your questionWhere to look
How many stores have my app right now?Installs in the Dev Dashboard for every store still on record, Merchants with your app in the Partner Dashboard for active stores only.
Did installs slow down, or did merchants leave?Install events and Uninstall events in the Dev Dashboard, side by side.
Which stores installed, and from where?Current installs in the Dev Dashboard, or the Current merchants export of the Partner Dashboard, which says whether each install was organic or came from a paid ad.
How much money did I actually receive?Payouts, in the Organization settings of the Dev Dashboard since October 27, 2026. Shopify says the payout is correct when it disagrees with a charge's details.
Is my recurring revenue growing?MRR, computed from the subscription events of the Partner API.
Why did merchants leave?Uninstall reasons, in the Partner Dashboard and the Partner API.

The Shopify Partner API returns these install, uninstall and charge events, and how to calculate MRR for a Shopify app shows how to turn them into recurring revenue.

When the Partner Dashboard stops reporting sales

Check the Payouts page and your bank before assuming lost revenue. In the sales incidents developers reported on Shopify's community forum, Shopify said payouts were not affected while the dashboard caught up.

  • From the end of November 2025, app and theme sales stopped appearing. A Shopify staff member said fixes shipped on December 4, and on December 8 that payouts were unaffected while dashboard metrics were still catching up.
  • From about February 13, 2026, install and uninstall events stopped appearing in the Partner Dashboard. Shopify staff said fixes shipped on February 16 and again overnight on February 17.
  • From September 5, 2026, earnings showed close to zero. On September 8, Shopify staff called it a data sync issue in the Partner Dashboard that did not affect sales or payouts, and on September 11 said the sync had completed.

In the December and September incidents, developers saw the same gap in the Partner API, so any tool or script built on it shows the gap too. To tell a reporting delay from a real drop, compare with records Shopify does not produce: your own app's log of installs and uninstalls, or the money that reached your bank.

What neither dashboard gives you

As Shopify documents them on October 30, 2026, neither dashboard gives you the numbers that explain growth:

  • MRR and its movements: new subscriptions, upgrades, downgrades, cancellations and returning merchants.
  • Churn as a rate, and retention by the month stores installed. See how to measure churn for a Shopify app.
  • Uninstall reasons counted over a period, to see whether a release or a price change moved them. See Shopify app uninstall reasons.
  • Listing traffic: views of your App Store listing and clicks on Install. Shopify's documentation points to Google Analytics 4 or Facebook Pixel, connected from the listing. See App Store search terms in GA4.

Luseri rebuilds MRR and its movements from the events of the Partner API, and shows separately the money actually collected, in the currency of your payouts.

Questions

Why does the Shopify Dev Dashboard show more installs than the Partner Dashboard?
The Dev Dashboard counts every store whose installation is still on record, including development stores and stores with no active plan. The Partner Dashboard's Merchants with your app counts only active stores and leaves out canceled or frozen ones. Shopify staff also said in September 2026 that the old Partner Dashboard count had a known issue that undercounted installs.
What is the Shopify Dev Dashboard?
Shopify's dashboard for app developers, at dev.shopify.com/dashboard, which takes over from the Partner Dashboard step by step: apps, stores, logs, installs and earnings, and since October 27, 2026 payouts, Partner billing and Partner API clients, under Organization settings. Charge details, app earnings, exports and app history stay in the Partner Dashboard for now.
Are Dev Dashboard earnings before or after Shopify's revenue share?
After. Shopify defines them as what is left of your app revenue after revenue share, fees, refunds and chargebacks. They are charted in whole days, and only users with the View financials permission can see them.
Why is my Partner Dashboard showing no sales?
In the incidents reported in December 2025 and September 2026, it was a reporting delay: Shopify said payouts were not affected while the dashboard caught up. Earnings also appear only after the merchant pays their Shopify invoice, up to 37 days after they approve a recurring charge.
Where did the install count go in the Partner Dashboard?
Developers noticed on September 25, 2026 that it had left the Partner Dashboard's list of apps; installs are now shown in the Dev Dashboard. A Shopify staff member said on September 28 that a chart of current installs on active stores was back on the Partner Dashboard's app overview, along with the exports.
Does Shopify show MRR for my app?
Not as of October 30, 2026: neither the Dev Dashboard nor the Partner Dashboard shows monthly recurring revenue. You compute it from the subscription events of the Partner API, by adding up the monthly price of every active subscription.
